Young Film Consultants wanted for Cinemagic Belfast 2020 Film Festival programming!

Cinemagic is looking for  young film enthusiasts, aged 8-18 yr olds, to take on the role of online ‘film consultants’ on 23rd and 24th July, to help programme a series of short films for the annual Cinemagic Festival that takes place in October 2020.

The participants will work with the Cinemagic team to help steer the choice of films for the Festival, as they watch and critique a series of short films from around the globe! If you know a budding film critic who would enjoy the opportunity to spend time immersed in movies, this is a fantastic opportunity to see a diverse range of new films, review and debate them, and have fun deciding key content of the largest film festival for young people in the UK and Ireland.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic Programmer said: “We are looking forward to welcoming young people aged 8-18, to our annual young film consultants panels, which will move online this year due to current social distancing measures in place. The young consultants programme has been one of the longest running initiatives of the Cinemagic Festival since its inception and it is really important to the festival to present a platform for young people’s voices and opinions to be heard.”

Each Young Consultant will be emailed a private link and password to a selection of (age specific) short films on Thursday 23rd July (9am).

Participants will have 24 hrs to watch the short films and to write down their comments and opinions. Cinemagic will share film review tips and programming guidance in advance.

On Friday 24th July each of the young consultant groups will then come together online with Cinemagic via Zoom (link to access this will be emailed upon registration) to discuss the films, give their opinions and decide what films should be selected for the in-competition section of the Cinemagic Festival in October.

Online Zoom Session (Age Group: 8-11) / 11am
Online Zoom Session (Age Group: 12-14) / 1pm
Online Zoom Session (Age Group: 15-18) / 3pm

Please note: A parent/guardian must be present with each participant aged under 18 during the online sessions. The young people who become film consultants will also contribute ideas for the festival programme and help with the promotion of festival events. Cinemagic is dedicated to providing new and exciting opportunities for young people with all interests in film, whether they want to enjoy new films or take their interest further and explore career options in the film industry.
