Cinemagic is delighted to welcome Patrick Doyle, one of the world’s most celebrated film composers, as its newest Patron, joining our mission to inspire the next generation of creative talent through film, television, and the arts. Cinemagic has welcomed Patrick to Belfast on numerous occasions to inspire young people at special events. Most recently, he joined us for a Q&A and screening at the 2026 Cinemagic Festival, where more than 200 people enjoyed hearing his insights and stories.

With a career spanning five decades, Patrick has composed music for more than 60 feature films, reaching a global audience of over one billion people. His remarkable body of work includes some of cinema’s most beloved titles, such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Thor, Brave, Cinderella, Sense and Sensibility and Murder on the Orient Express.
Born in Scotland in 1953, Patrick graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 1975 before establishing himself across theatre, radio, and television. His first film score, for Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V in 1989, earned him an Ivor Novello Award and began a celebrated creative partnership that would span three decades, producing numerous acclaimed film scores.
Throughout his career, Patrick has collaborated with some of the world’s most respected filmmakers, including Ang Lee, Brian De Palma, Alfonso Cuarón, Robert Altman and Amma Asante. His score for Disney Pixar’s Brave brought the musical traditions of Scotland to audiences around the world, while his song Noble Maiden Fair (A Mhaighdean Bhan Uasal), performed by Emma Thompson, made history as the first song in Disney filmmaking to feature lyrics sung in Scottish Gaelic.
Patrick’s achievements extend well beyond cinema. In 2023, he became the first Scottish composer to write the UK’s Royal Coronation March, performed at Westminster Abbey for the Coronation of King Charles III. His distinguished career has earned him two Academy Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations and numerous honours, including lifetime achievement awards from the World Soundtrack Awards and BAFTA Scotland. In June 2026, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to film.
Alongside his celebrated career, Patrick is a passionate advocate for music education and the development of emerging artistic talent. His commitment to nurturing the next generation includes supporting grassroots musical initiatives, championing access to music education and serving as a patron of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Junior Conservatoire of Music.
Patrick’s dedication to encouraging young people to explore their creativity and pursue opportunities in the arts makes him a wonderful addition to the Cinemagic family. Through our international film festival, educational programmes, short film academies, and industry engagement opportunities, Cinemagic works to open doors for young people, helping them discover their creative potential and build pathways into the screen industries.
We are thrilled to welcome Patrick Doyle as a Cinemagic Patron and look forward to celebrating his extraordinary contribution to film, music, and the next generation of creative talent.
