Los Angeles Festival
In 2023, under the guidance of Cinemagic industry professionals, young people aged 15-21, created a short film ‘Heaven on Earth’ supported by British Consulate in Los Angeles addressing social responsibility to inspire change and give a platform to the opinions and voices of young people. The participants had the chance to develop their talents and employability skills in a range of production areas as well as earn a credit on the film.
In 2024, also under the guidance of Cinemagic industry professionals, young people from Hawthorne School District created the short film 'Dream Notes'. This short film has gone on to win the Los Angeles Film Award for Best Inspirational Film 2024.
NI to LA!
Through our annual Cinemagic LA programme, young people from LA and across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland unite in Los Angeles to participate in talks, workshops, masterclasses and film screenings designed to motivate and inspire future filmmakers.
In 2026, 21 young people from across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Canada travelled to Los Angeles to participate in an exclusive programme of workshops, studio experiences, screenings and professional insight sessions, alongside young people from Los Angeles and Canada, including students from Prairie Vista Middle School. Special guest speakers included Kirsten Sheridan, Ryan Rowe, Alison Winters, Dan Dark OBE, and Ross King MBE. Access full press release HERE.
Northern Ireland Bureau, Screen Ireland, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Communify worked partnership with Cinemagic to bring together young creatives from Northern Ireland, Ireland, Los Angeles and Canada for a week-long programme of industry immersion, cultural exchange and creative development.
Across the week-long programme, participants gained exclusive access to leading creative organisations and experiences including bespoke industry insight sessions with Artists Equity and Imagine Entertainment, a careers-focused day at Warner Bros. Studios, featuring a special’ in conversation’ opportunity with Dan Dark OBE, and visits to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Griffith Observatory.
