Like many of our fellow film festivals and arts organisations the next few months will see us switching focus to produce a lot more online content. We are fully committed to continue to provide our audience with a programme of high quality films, practical creative opportunities and film education resources.
THE CINEMAGIC PREVIEW SHOW
Check out the first edition of the Cinemagic Preview Show where young film critics review the latest releases. On our first show we have Sophie Merivale, Cara McKernon and Jack Carberry reviewing Neasa Hardiman’s feature debut SEA FEVER. We also have an industry Q&A with broadcaster and film critic Anna Smith.

CINEMAGIC YOUNG FILMMAKER 2020
Cinemagic is looking for imaginative and original films made by young people to be screened as part of CINEMAGIC YOUNG FILMMAKER 2020. The films can be about anything at all! Fact or fiction, comedy or drama, news programme or documentary.
CINEMAGIC YOUNG FILMMAKER 2020 will take place during the CINEMAGIC BELFAST FESTIVAL in October/November. The event will showcase the best short film entries of the year and we will also be producing a series of workshops and master classes with renowned members of the film and TV industry. A digital filmmaking prize will be awarded for the best film in each age and genre category – the winning entries will also be screened ‘IN COMPETITION’ during the CINEMAGIC INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE in 2021.
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS
ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP / TACKLING DRUG USE
Earlier this year The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in collaboration with The Department of Justice and Cinemagic, produced educational resources for teachers and young people, highlighting issues such as drug use, peer pressure and reporting crime in Northern Ireland. The resources link directly to the Local and Global Citizenship component of the NI Curriculum.
The resources include PUSHED a short film produced by Cinemagic, which follows two female lead characters who are drawn into taking drugs and tackles issues such as the impact of breaking the law and justice. CCEA have produced resources to accompany PUSHED which includes opportunities for teachers to explore themes in the film such as: the effects of law breaking on individuals and communities: reporting crime: peer pressure, and the effects of drugs and alcohol on young people and their wellbeing.
